Thunder Ball

- Low RF Novelty Plasma Ball Modification

I caution you to treat this novelty plasma ball modification with care. Kerry's Modification turns a novelty plasma ball into an interesting low RF Plasma transmission system. I bought a few of these Thunder Balls from eBay Australia, listed as "Lightning Balls". Some researchers have experienced trouble with this modification, specifically with the novelty lamps found in the US.

This Plasma Ball modification makes a great Frequency Therapy introduction, and educational tool.

The 8 inch Lightning Plasma Ball has a set frequency of 28,000Hz (28kHz), and produces low RF (Radio Frequency). This modification will modulate (join by interference) the 28kHz signal with and audio signal.

1,000 Hz out the plasma ball with probe in air about 1 foot from the ball.

1,000 Hz out the plasma ball with probe on the body. Probe earth is also connected to my body. I'm about 2 feet from the ball.

Spectrum of 1,000 Hz on body, 2 feet from ball.

This modification will drive the power transistor circuit a little harder than normal and it's a good idea to provide extra air ventilation in the case. Drilling several small holes 1/4 inch diameter in each side should be enough. Installing a larger heat sink to the TIP122 transistor is suggested.

  • Disconnect and unplug the power.
  • Remove the screws at the base of the ball.
  • Carefully pull out the circuit. The High Voltage wire that goes to stainless steel wool in the center electrode chamber will pull out.
  • Identify the power transistor, the one with the heat sink on it. A TIP122 on my circuit.
  • On this plasma ball circuit, the three pegs are labeled on the circuit board, B, C, E.
  • Find the Base peg. On this 8 inch ball it is the one to the left in the photo.
  • This circuit uses a TIP122 Darlington. Data Sheet
  • Access to the Base peg was difficult on this circuit so ...
  • Turn the circuit board over and trace the circuit track across to a diode.

I removed the microphone can from the circuit. You do not need to do this as we don't use the microphone section of the circuit. You can just leave the microphone can there.

  • Acquire a 3.5mm stereo cable from a computer or electronics shop. I used a 3 meter shielded audio cable.
  • Cut one end off.
  • Using wire cutters, expose either the right or left channel active lead.
  • Solder the active lead to the diode, the side of the diode closest to the power transistor, or if you can easily access the Base peg of the power transistor on your circuit, then solder directly to the power transistors peg.
  • CAUTION: If you get the connection wrong, permanent damage to your sound card can happen.

  • Next we have to solder the ground/shield of the audio cable to the ground of the RF Plasma ball circuit.
  • I had to add a small extension wire to get the stereo lead ground/shield to reach the circuit ground at the on/off switch.
  • The ground track can be traced from the power pack connector to the on/off switch.
  • That's it, now we have to reassemble the High Voltage lead and set the circuit board back into the Plasma Ball housing.

  • I curved the HV cable as such so the round smooth edge of the wire wouldn't scratch the internal center electrode coating when pushed back in. I did a little scratch on my first mod. but it didn't affect the performance.

  • You will need to re-assemble the High Voltage cable through the rubber cup that holds the glass to the plastic bass.
  • Slide the High Voltage corrugated insulator over the HV wire.
  • Final check of wire connections and solder joints.
  • Re-attach the plastic base plate with the circuit.
  • Slide the HV wire back into the center electrode chamber.
  • Attach the circuit and base to the plasma ball case.
  • Attach the power pack lead and turn on. The Plasma ball will ignite and display it's usual patterns.
  • Connecting the 3.5mm stereo connector from the plasma ball to the sound card will turn off the display.
  • Run a frequency program via Frex and adjust volume to maximize the new plasma display.

  • Safety Operating Suggestions.
    • Remember - frequencies run for 2.5 minutes and under tend to stimulate while frequencies run for 3 minutes and longer tend to calm. [James Bare]
    • Sit back 5 or 6 feet on you first few frequency sessions, to establish any herx reaction.
    • Run short 10 minutes programs at first. Even if you think your systematically fine.
    • When connecting to notebook or pc, it will automatically turn off if frequencies or an audio signal is not present on the sound card line.
    • Be extremely careful if using in contact mode - this is like a power boost mode and the effects are quite enhanced.
    • Keep the head away from the plasma. RF emissions are 100% at 8 inches and are no longer detectible at 12 inches. A wave shaper and duty cycle control circuit may enhance this transmission and healing effect.
    • Keep in well ventilated area and make sure ventilation access is not blocked.
Research with great care.
