FreX and Audacity Tutorial

This tutorial assumes you have installed FreX and are able to select, edit and modify frequency programs.

I have found it very useful to be able to record the FreX programs (as they run) and save them to MP3 format so I can copy these frequency files to MP3 players, so my amplifiers (FreX-PFA-3, REBS, and PLC) can be operated without the need for a computer. It makes the system very portable and easy to take with you and enjoy the benefit of this therapy no matter where you are.

This Tutorial will address the operation of Audacity so you record the FreX frequency data file correctly.

    1. Install Audacity and make sure you have the "lame_enc.dll" file living in your Audacity folder. Usually C:\Program Files\Audacity

    2. The "lame_enc.dll" is the MP3 format management library. We use MP3 format as most portable musical devices support MP3 format. Plus MP3 format preserves the FreX signal very well without degrading it.

    3. Now run Audacity and select Stereo Mix from the drop down combo box, in the center of Audacity's form. Stereo Mix tells Audacity to record what is present on windows audio stereo channels.

    4. Run FreX, then run the frequency program you want to record. You need to be able to hear the audio tone.

    5. Click the large red record button on Audacity. Audacity will now record what ever audio stream is playing in Windows.

    6. You can verify this by the blue band of audio data scrolling along in the Audacity software. See image below.

    7. This signal is too strong and is clipping the top of the wave shape. Use the record volume slider to reduce the audio record volume so the signal is reduced and appears like below, with a tiny white space between the blue signal trace and the top of the 1 volt chart.

    8. At the end of the FreX program, click the stop button in Audacity. Then save the file under the file menu "Export As MP3"

    9. If all has gone to plan, you now have a great MP3 file of the frequency data FreX produced. This file can be loaded into MP3 players, or recorded to a CD for play back on other audio devices.
